A Blogging Mood as of Late

I never know what to capitalize in the titles of blogs. All the nouns, every word that is more than three letters? I hate to reveal my grammatical ignorance, but I really don't know.

Lately I've felt like blogging a lot. I have no idea who reads my blog- since I posted the link on facebook, technically you could say that over 500 people know about it. However, I would guess that maybe 10? 5? people read it. I've found, however, that I don't usually blog with the intent of someone in particular reading it. It's more where I put my thoughts that I don't necessarily want to keep secret but also don't have someone specific to share them with. More than a journal, less than a conversation.

Something that has always amused me on campus is how to greet people. Girls and guys alike- when have you reached the level of friendship where you hug every time you see each other? Are high fives really ever ok? I always go for the high five when I can tell the person is expecting something, but I don't really want to hug them, or I think they don't want to hug me, but I also don't want them to stand there awkwardly. So I make the situation worse by putting up my hand and slapping it to theirs. Excellent. There are some people, however, that I do love to hug.

Aside from hugging/high fiving/should we bring handshakes back?, there's also discerning whether you're just saying hi in passing, or if you should stop and talk to the person. The worst is when one of you stops while the other is still going, and then there's this moment of confusion for both people where one starts walking again while the other pauses.

Maybe I'm just really bad at picking up on social cues. All in all though, a hug isn't that big of a deal, and neither is stopping for a few minutes to talk to someone you weren't aware felt that you merited more than, "Hi!" If you see me on campus frequently, please just confidently do whatever you think is appropriate. If you want to stop and talk, stop, I will too. If you want to hug, just go for it. I will hug you back.

I hate obligatory hugs that people trick you into. I also hate half hugs. Hug all the way - like, for real - or not at all.

That is how I feel about hugging.
